Northumberland County is located on the shores of Lake Ontario just an hour east of Toronto. Often known for its beautiful beach, historic downtown shopping, and picturesque rolling hills, Northumberland has always been a popular tourist destination. In recent years the County has also attracted many retirees, and with the convenience of the VIA Rail commuter service, the area has become a place to call home for many Toronto commuters. The County consists of 12 towns and villages that span as far east as Brighton, north to Hastings and Rice Lake, west to Port Hope, and south to the shores of Lake Ontario, including Grafton and Cobourg. These communities are rich in both culture and activities with dozens of festivals throughout the year, theaters, galleries, historic buildings, restaurants, and a thriving small business community.
